Hiking The Water Tanks in Capitol Gorge
Capitol Gorge is the route of the old road through Capitol Reef National Park, it is now at the end of the scenic drive and motorised traffic
is not allowed. It was a lovely late October day after a 20F night so Vicki, Alynn and I decided to go for a short hike. Hard to imagine the road went through that narrow gorge, which is several miles long, until 1962, not much traffic.

A water tank - they hide in deep shaded places mostly and are home to small swimming tadpole creatures.

Water Tank and arch, most of the tanks here are in a stream bed that flows down a series of falls to the main gorge, water only runs during storms.
The main gorge is where the light coloured tree is at the bottom left.

The arch is about two feet high and ten feet across.

At the far end of this pool a tiny beach has formed, not much use for sunbathing!

I had to climb up a side gorge to get the arch pictures, meanwhile the nurses took a rest...
