Not much water in the creek by the looks of it, strange with all this snow melting.
It had good grip and I gave it no more thought but on the way back the rear wheel dropped through a layer of ice into about 6 inches of water, dirt and snow have covered the ice and the creek is running under it.
I headed up to my favourite bluff overlooking Torrey with its magnificent view of the Henry Mountains.
Torrey is over there in the small hills
On the edge of the world
From there I headed up the very rocky road towards Thousand Lake Mountain, eventually I gained enough height to find the snow
Even using the ATV tracks I couldn't get grip on this hill and this is as far as I got up that road.
I found some side valleys below the cliffs with nice views that I hadn't been into before
A combination of unexpectedly deep snow on top of slippy bentonite made the CRF tired so it took a nap.
I headed west thinking I might follow the trail round the Velvet Ridge but decided against crossing Sand Creek when I came to this
The creek had the layer of ice over it and where it was flatter it had frozen into a lump with the water running under it and in places bubbling up through cracks and running over the top, tonight that will all freeze and raise the ice plateau some more.
This side wash had a couple of ice steps with water flowing under them
There was a flash flood here last summer which left some pretty tall banks, look at all those giant boulders in the sand, they form the bank downstream from here where the sand has all been washed away.
