The hike starts at highway 12 and enters a fairly open canyon with the creek running at the bottom of it.
Soon the creek spreads out across the canyon floor forcing the trail up onto the sides, while it was quite warm in the sun the shady parts were chilly.
There was about 3-4 inches of snow on the shaded parts of the trail, the parts in the sun were beginning to get muddy.
After about 3 miles the falls come into view over Calf Creek.
Lower Calf Creek Falls.
Along the shady side of the canyon round the falls large blocks of ice had slipped to the canyon floor, the spray from the falls settles on the surrounding rock and creates sheets of ice.
The ice sticks to the bottom of the wall but when it gets thick enough it falls from higher up.
My hiking partner Vicki didn't want her picture taken.
So here's a picture of the falls without her...
On the way back we were treated to a magnificent view of the Henry Mountains from the Larb Hollow overlook, apparently I don't include enough pictures of myself in my stories so here I am.
