1974 Honda CB175

My first real motorcycle. In 1974 I started full time work and had enough money to buy, or at least to get a loan for a move up. The 34 mph moped had its limitations and my friends were moving away to universities out of its range. I rode this bike over much of southern and central England, one of my most memorable rides was to see Nigel in Nottingham. Nottingham is almost exactly 100 miles north of Luton where I grew up and all on the freeway (M1). It was cold winter evening and I was going up there for a party, got on the M1 and just kept going all the way, I didn't have good gear then and was freezing. When I got to the Nottingham exit I went up the off ramp and then discovered that my hands were completely numb and I couldn't work the controls. I have no idea how I negotiated the roundabout at the top but ended up pulling the clutch in by moving my whole arm back. I suppose it would be more dramatic if I had launched into a field but luckily at that time there were no llamas in England.
