I bought my second KLR650 on July 25th 1998 from Diablo Kawasaki BMW in Walnut Creek, CA.

In 2001 I took a trip to Idaho and stopped in at Happy-Trails in Boise to have some extras mounted. I had the SU luggage racks with Givi mounts, a skid plate, highway pegs with guard, radiator and coolant tank crash bars and the K9 fork brace. The fork brace made a huge difference, the KLR had a tendency to wallow about in corners especially when fully loaded but with the brace it is rock solid.
![]() I have always enjoyed water crossings, probably because I haven't fallen in one yet. This is a stretch of the road near the headwaters of the Salmon River in Idaho. |

Said CA Stu: “The KLR flies like a bird, lands like a grand piano.”
Four years after the above pictures the KLR is still going, it's now in Utah and seems to like mud.

This picture was taken at the end of The Ride Of Shame up on UT72 looking out over Cathedral Valley to the Henry Mountains.
