Mexico 2002

Christmas 2002 saw a return to Mexico, this time to Cabo San Lucas on the Baja Peninsula. Cabo is located right at the southern tip of Baja where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez (also called the Gulf of California) The crew was again selected from the Friday night softball team Detail and a fine crew they were. Larry, Linda and I stayed at a timeshare condo that Larry found for us and Alan and Kristi stayed at a small hotel just above town called The Bungalows which featured very nice breakfasts.

The trip started early on Boxing Day with a 9am flight from San Diego to San Jose Del Cabo where I met up with Larry and Linda who was celebrating her 40th birthday. We decided to take advantage of one of the timeshare offers and got ourselves transport to and from the airport and an ATV excursion in exchange for listening to their pitch for 90 minutes the next morning. This worked out pretty well as we arrived a day before our reservation at the condo started and needed transport from the 7 Crowns Hotel to our condo as well. The 7 Crowns is a "cheap" hotel on the main road into Cabo just out of the centre of town, naturally they didn't have our reservation right and tried to put the three of us in two single beds, after some phone calls they put us in a room named Hector which was suitably bedded. It was right by the road but we were all so tired we slept about 12 hours there.

On Friday morning we were whisked over to the Westin timeshare which was a very impressive new complex but far too distant from Cabo to be interesting and very expensive as well. We had a nice breakfast with our host and took a look at one of the very luxurious suites before being taken to the sales room where we met the "bad cop". He wasn't that bad and when it became clear we weren't interested he ended the conversation quite quickly. From there we went over to the Misiones Del Cabo where we had reservations and we were all very happy to find that we had a nice second floor suite looking out over the Sea Of Cortez and right next to the tennis courts.
